PC/MAC Vulnerable? Patch those security holes!

Here is a article on a security firm giving Adobe the #1 spot for putting your computer at risk:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/19/adobe-dominates-kaspersky-labs-top-ten-pc-vulnerabilites-list/

Here are steps I recommend doing AT LEAST every six months:
1. Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and do a full scan
2. Check your browser plugins (all browsers, not just the one you use, ie: Firefox, Chrome, Internet explorer)
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
3. Run "Windows Update" until there is no updates.
4. Open Adobe Reader and click "help" and click "check for updates"

Remember, unpached computers not only put your computer at risk, it puts others at risk if it is taken over and it also puts any sensitive information stored (credit, identity you get the idea) at risk.

One last note, Apple computers are also at risk and you can do step 2 to help lower your risk.

Ubuntu is a great altertive/2nd option to Windows

Just got Ubuntu 11.04 installed in an old Compaq (1.8ghz sempron, 512MB Ram, you get the idea!).  Was easily able to install the flash plug-in for Firefox and that was all I could see as a necessity!  It just works, was able to test skype, facebook games (bejeweled), and videos on facebook and youtube.  It comes built in with open-source antivirus and can be set to auto-update itself.  Set it and forget it! Mac people brag about not getting viruses, but nothing beats Linux for security.

If this is something you are interested in trying as a second option to Windows or to replace it, please contact me!
